For nearly fifty years firefighters in Kentucky and Southern Indiana have been raising funds to help their communities' special needs children.
Funds are collected throughout the year and roadblocks appear in May until the first weekend in June when WHAS-TV launches it weekend telethon for the special needs children in our area.
Firefighters raise half of the funds generated for the Crusade through roadblocks, fish fries, golf tournaments and other such fund raising drives.
Businesses and the telethon make up the other half of the Crusade.
ALL OF THE MONEY RAISED BY THE FIRE DEPARTMENTS RETURNS TO THEIR COMMUNITIES SPECIAL NEEDS CHILDREN! 100% of the money!
This money returns in the form of grants to agencies that provide services to the children.
The Crusade also provides grants and equipment donations to area hospitals for specialized equipment needed for the care and treatment of special needs children.

Crusade for Children
Explorer Watterson helps Clifty Six raise money for the WHAS Crusade for Children at our annual roadblock.
Advisors Stettenbenz and Hendrick work the roadblock.
Even firefighter's wives help out during Crusade weekend.
The money is counted and then on Crusade Sunday delivered to the WHAS-TV studios via Engine Six. We see many other departments' apparatus and here are few pictures of them:
And finally delivering the money we raise during the live telethon:
